Randal (Randy) Howard Mick passed on from this life September 26, 2020 at the age of 64.
Randy was born in Toledo, Ohio on Thanksgiving Day November 24, 1955 to Darrel (Jack) and Claribel (Jinx) Mick. Sycamore, Ohio became his new home when the family relocated several years later.
Growing up in Sycamore Randy was active in Boy Scouts, had a paper route, loved fishing, model cars, Soap Box Derby and spending time with his friends. He had a “very special” friend – his beloved dog Patches who was with him to adulthood. Jeff Robe – a cousin – fondly remembers, ‘…one time we hit the jackpot with the pop machine on Main Street in Sycamore. Randy and I went down to get some drinks and we discovered the machine was giving out pop without needing any money. I think we came back with as many as we could hold after we drank our fill by the machine.’
Randy graduated from Mohawk High School where he was on the wrestling team and attended Ohio State University. He joined his Father working at Mick Insurance Agency which he later acquired.
Randy was a member of Sycamore Area Businessmen’s Association, charter member of Mohawk Jaycees and bowled many years with their league. He also was a Son of American Legion Post # 250 and served on Sycamore Volunteer Fire & EMS. Randy had a gift for observing and appreciating life and nature. That appreciation made him an excellent photographer and he was often seen with camera in hand – a passion that was shared by his father and uncle Howard Mick.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Erica Mick, grandsons Callan, Bret, Ronan, and Malek, his sister Jennifer (Mick) Joniec and husband George Joniec, nieces Meghan and Margot, nephew Graham and great niece Luca Kowalewski.
Funeral services for Randy will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. with visitation from 11:00 – 1:00 at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 201 W. Saffel Ave., Sycamore, Ohio. Due to Covid masks will be required. Randy will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sycamore next to his parents. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice.
