Gene L. Wyss

Gene L. Wyss, age 93 of Sycamore, Ohio died at 8:25 P.M., Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Vancrest of Upper Sandusky. He was born on June 29, 1933 in Marseilles, Ohio to Harry and Marcella (Calvert) Wyss. He married Diane (Davis) Wyss on April 26, 1958 and she survives in Sycamore, Ohio.                                                                          

Surviving are the following daughters: Barb (Bill) Shumaker, rural Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Sandy (Mike) Beach, rural Sycamore, Ohio, and Ginn (Dave) Clark, rural Sycamore, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Ashley Bishop, Amanda Beach, Mercy Taylor, Kip Shumaker, Derek Beach, Kaylea Poole, Lauren Beach and Kristie Theis, plus 14 great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by four sisters, Ivalene DeBolt, Joanne Justice, Irene Hart, and Judi Reed.

Gene retired after working 40 years as a shipping clerk for American Standard, Tiffin, Ohio. He attended Sycamore High School. 

He was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church, Mohawk Historical Society and the Sycamore American Legion Post #250. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956.

He and his wife Diane were caretakers of the Pleasant View Cemetery for 18 years. He took tickets at Attica Raceway Park for many years. He was at one time a member of the Sycamore Village Council and worked for many years part-time for Walton-Moore Funeral Home.                                                                             

For hobbies, Gene loved to bowl and refinish all kinds of furniture.                                                                                      

A memorial service for Gene will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sycamore United Methodist Church with Pastor Lindsay Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery where the Sycamore American Legion Post #250 will conduct a military graveside service. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at the church prior to the memorial service.
