Carl Wagner Obituary

Carl W. Wagner, age 76 of Westerville, Ohio died at 3:42 A.M., Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Mt. Carmel St. Anns Hospital, Westerville, Ohio. He was born on January 4, 1945 in Greenville, Ohio to Herman L. and Betty (Shell) Wagner. He married Kay (Hart) Wagner on March 22, 1969 and she survives.                                         

Surviving are the following children, Cade (Mackenzie Damon) Wagner, Columbus, Ohio and Kara (Phil) Turner, Westerville, Ohio and two grandchildren, Kate and Rowen. He also is survived by a brother, Timothy Wagner, Greenville, Ohio and Edward and Joan Hart, Madisonville, Kentucky, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lawrence Wagner and sister-in-law, Mary Wagner and in-laws Harry and Helen Hart.                                                                                                                           

Carl graduated from Bradford High School, Darke County, Ohio in 1963 and from the College of Agriculture at The Ohio State University in 1967 where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. 

He was employed by the US. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for over thirty-eight years in both the Farmer’s Home Administration (FmHA) and Rural Housing (RH) agencies, During this time, he served as assistant county supervisor in the Tiffin, Cambridge and Greenville offices; county supervisor in Findlay and London offices; and as director of Multi-family housing for the USDA Ohio office of FmHA. In 1995, he moved to serve in the national USDA RH office in Washington,DC. His final appointment for the USDA was to serve as, National Director for the USDA RH agency. After retiring from USDA in 2005, he worked ten years as a senior vice-president at Lancaster Pollard, Columbus, Ohio in Affordable Rural Housing. His goal in life was to assist in the obtainment of housing where families and children could thrive and where seniors and people with disabilities could live safely. In 2006 he was awarded a special life-achievement accommodation by the National Council of Affordable Rural Housing. Carl was known for his devotion to his family. His non-working time was spent as a devoted father and grandfather.                                 

A memorial graveside service for Carl will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin, Ohio with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Zuehlke officiating.
