Bill Bogard Obituary

Bill J. Bogard, age 86, formerly of 106 E. 10th Street, Sycamore, Ohio, died at 2:55 AM on Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Wyandot Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on April 7, 1934 in Wyandot County to Virgil and Mabel (Sours) Bogard Sr. He married Carolyn R. (Stillberger) Bogard and she survives.

Surviving are the following children: Brad “Fuzz” (Janet Vallery) Bogard, Sycamore, Ohio, Terry (Geri) Bogard, Tiffin, Ohio, and Brian (Dan Bridge) Bogard, Sylvania, Ohio. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Wade Bogard, Trent Bogard, and Carli (Bogard) Gorman. Seven great-grandchildren also survive: Cash and Cooper Bogard, Brixton and Knox Bogard, and Rowan, Finn and Kinli Gorman. One sister, Donna Roush, Sycamore, and one brother, Jerry (Sylvia) Bogard, Upper Sandusky, also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Mossbrugger, and two brothers, Virgil Jr. Bogard, and Danny Bogard.

Bill retired as a forman at the former General Electric, Tiffin, Ohio. He was a 1952 graduate of Sycamore High School. He was very active in high school sports winning the Ohio State High Jump in 1952, clearing 6’3 ¾”. Bill played high school basketball with his four brothers, and between the four of them, they scored 6,060 points total in their careers. After high school, he played fastpitch softball as a pitcher for Granger Insurance and then Payne Realty and Ray’s Pizza. He was noted for a very good curve ball and he also pitched a perfect game. He was instrumental in starting women and mens slow pitch leagues in Sycamore. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed watching Mohawk sports, especially girls fastpitch. He is a member of the Mohawk Hall of Fame and the Wyandot County Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Tiffin Moose Lodge and a social member of the Sycamore American Legion. For years he and his wife Carolyn ran the concession stand at the Sycamore Legion Ballfield.

Funeral services for Bill will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, Ohio with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Zuehlke officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Saturday, prior to the funeral service. The family would like people to wear Ohio State clothing for visitation and the funeral service.
