Benjamin H. Chaffee Sr., age 69 of 2572 Township Highway 14, Sycamore, Ohio died at 4:19 P.M., Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. He was born on December 27, 1949 in Tiffin, Ohio to Glen C. and Kathryn (McIntyre) Chaffee. He married Jean A. (Kerschner) Chaffee on July 25, 1970 and she survives.
Surviving are the following children: Benjamin H. (Jody) Chaffee Jr., North Fairfield, Ohio, Rodney L. (Elizabeth) Chaffee, Granville, Ohio and Nikole (Robert) Herner, Monroeville, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Benjamin Chaffee lll, Lydia Chaffee, Bryan Chaffee, Simon Chaffee, Erin Chaffee, Sara Chaffee, Sydney Herner and Travis Herner. Ben also had one brother, Glenn A. (Cheryl) Chaffee, rural Sycamore, Ohio and three sisters, Marilyn Ann Martin, Van Wert, Ohio, Glenna Mae West, Fort Seneca, Ohio and Debra Sue (Doyle) Majors, Tiffin, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Chaffee in 1983, one brother, Richard Chaffee in 1977 and one sister, Nancy Kirchner in 2013.
Ben retired in 2015 from Webster Industries-Stacey Equipment as Sales Manager after working for them for forty-seven years. He also owned Mohawk Fab and Weld and also loved to farm.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Sycamore, Ohio, was a 1968 graduate of Old Fort High School and also was a graduate of Tiffin University in accounting. He was a member of the Sycamore American Legion Post # 250, member of the Odd Fellows Lodge # 174, Melmore, Ohio, member of the Sandusky River Coon Hunters, member of the Mohawk FFA Alumni, was a former member of Mohawk Young Farmers and the Ohio Young Farmers. He also currently was serving his second term as a Sycamore Township Trustee. He served his country from 1968-1972 as a United States Marine and also served in the Army Reserves from 1977-1995.
Funeral services for Ben will be held on Monday, March 11,2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Pius x Catholic Church in Sycamore, Ohio with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, Ohio where the Seneca County Veterans Council will conduct a military graveside service. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2:00-6:00 P.M. at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home where a wake service will be held at 6:00 P.M.
